My Black Cat

Thirteen ways of looking at a cat.

This is a poem I wrote for my creative writing class. It's been such a long time since I have written anything that I am remotely satisfied with. I like parts of this better then others but over all I am happy with it :)

I.

My black cat

Is a tight ball of wool

Warming my toes

II.

Her eyes glowed emerald

In the dark,

A phantom of the night

III.

She is archaic

Sitting in her chair

Quilting away

Surrounded by cat hair

IV.

Superstition followed her

In the form of a black cat

V.

The ballerina

In her black leotard

Moved with precision

Fluid as a black cat

VI.

The shadows lengthen across the grass

Stretching like a languid cat

VII.

Home feels like,

The cat watching the rain

Sliding down the glass

VIII.

The shadow of a black cat

Creeps up on us all

IX.

Hushed whispering

Heated kissing

The cat viewed everything

Curled in the chair

X.

Something pretentious

Something like a smile

Something like a sly cat

XI.

My grandfather

Likes his Hemingway

His pie cut in three

His cat named Barney

XII.

Inside these walls,

Only the family cat

Knows everyone’s secrets

XIII.

Some days

I would feel better

If instead the mouse ate the cat

Back to school

one step forward (award winning 48 hour film project) from ben crowell on Vimeo.

here's a video I found on vimeo which I think is brilliant and just made me smile a lot.
The second is a video I filmed with Brooke, it's just short, and fun and I wish summer stayed forever.
