Metamorphosis

He stood on the street corner,
eyes like a forest fire, devouring
cars & people.
I saw him flailing

"this city is not big enough
for the both of us," he wandered off down some
train tracks.
"who needs Wisconsin anyways," I said swallowing tears.

I took off
above the trees
higher than I'd ever imagined.
My wings were wide
My beak was strong

before I knew it,
I was a bird

I have been dying to make another quilt but with school I'm just not able to start a project so big. So as procrastination from homework, I made this mini quilt. I copied it from here if you are interested in making your own. I don't know where to hang it now, my bedroom walls are quite full!

a parable, or
a long long long lane, or
a cramped car ride
with skeleton branches
whipping past the windows, or
an icicle gaze across the table,
a stretching formica gulf

We vowed we would be
tendrils,
sprouting raw winter wheat.
Something leafy,
something summery.
A lime, mossy, cicada song
a cultivated garden
a half and a half
hovering,
in the unrealistic concave
of each other's heart
